On Saturday, November 12th The Rotary Club of Historic Brownsville held its 9th annual Eye Clinic.
The Eye Clinic provides eye exams and a pair of glasses at no cost to the recipients. This year’s partner for the event was the Brownsville Independent School District’s Youth Connection. BISD’s Youth Connection staff, under the direction of the McKinney-Vento Act, worked with teachers and families to select 60 students that were struggling to see classroom aids including the class’s whiteboard. The event was held at the office of Dr. Antonio Vasquez in Los Fresnos. Dr. Vasquez, a fellow Rotarian, invited Dr. Mano Valderaz and Dr. Christopher Guillen to volunteer to administer the eye exams at the Eye Clinic.
BISD was generous in providing bus transportation for the students and their families to the Eye Clinic.
Once at the Eye Clinic, the students and their families were greeted by Rotarians and the excellent staff of Dr. Vasquez. The students checked in and enjoyed a complimentary Chick-Fil-A breakfast and face painting.
The Rotary Club of Historic Brownsville was delighted to work with BISD, the office of Dr. Vasquez, Dr. Valderaz, and Dr. Guillen to provide this vital resource and work together to improve the health and quality of life for these BISD students.
