On Sunday, October 6th, the Rotary Club of Historic Brownsville hosted its 16th annual Ride for Rotary cycling event. This annual ride, held every first Sunday of October, serves as the Rotary Club's sole fundraiser of the year.

The ride consists of riders choosing between a modest 30-mile route or a more grueling 45-mile trek, both taking the riders through five cities and concluding in an exhilarating test of mettle when TxDOT closes the Queen Isabella Causeway, the second-longest bridge in Texas. Towering 80 feet above mean high tide at its highest point, riders cross en route to a well-deserved celebration at Louie’s Backyard.

2024’s Ride for Rotary was the biggest event to date, with more riders than in previous years. The Ride began a powerful rendition of the national anthem sung by Madelynn Gonzalez and followed by the Vela Middle School drumline setting the tone and energy. This event was made possible through the amazing collaboration with the North Brownsville Rotary Club, the Interact Clubs of IDEA Brownsville, Rivera High School, Saint Joseph Academy and Los Fresnos High School. We would also like to thank the Blue Knights, Bicycle World, and JT Cycling. With their support, riders had access to SAG (Support and Gear) services and were kept safe and hydrated throughout the journey. An added thanks to the dedicated police forces of Brownsville, Los Fresnos, Laguna Vista, Port Isabel, and South Padre Island for ensuring a safe Ride for all.

The funds raised from rider registrations and our generous sponsors enable the club to continue its community service projects throughout the year, living up to Rotary’s motto of "Service Above Self."
