I’ve been holding off making any noise fir the past weeks because…….  Still no change, but I thought I could update on some new data that has unfolded these past few months.

Our programs are on hold but children are still having to be taken from parents.  There is no virus stopping that.   I have been in touch with CPS to discuss stepping up what we do—make some changes to what we have done to become additionally involved.  That was met with a “not necessary.”

Most will recall that 22 years ago this Rotary program was developed and became a part of an increasing number of club projects.  It was against the law to have anyone outside the CPS staff and the police to interact with their children.  CPS closed their eyes and allowed our parties to happen.  Rotary was making a huge difference in the number of adoptions in Texas.

Then the law was changed to allow Rotary to have the picnic parties.  Our involvement continued and grew.  It is a growing success.  More and more clubs have become involved.  New and innovative ways to entertain the children developed.  Our District, our Zone and many outside became engaged even at an international level of Rotary.  “Rotary did Good.”

However, not a word was uttered and about two years ago CPS dropped exclusively Rotary from the rules.  There are many child advocate organizations in Texas and they all have been included.  Rotary should remain committed.

We will continue to make a difference in a child’s life.  I trust we can do just that.
