Below is a service project that is being spearheaded by Dr. Jared Dmello, Chair of the Satellite Club of the Laredo Rotary Club.  It is a terrific initiative.
This is a wonderful project and one that all clubs can participate with.  It doesn’t cost much of anything and has the potential to brighten someone’s day.  And also deliver hope to these individuals who were affected.  Another example of how Rotarians can Lend A Helping Hand.

Hello!

A good friend of mine and one of the leading scholars in our field on mass shootings, Dr. Jaclyn Schildkraut, has been collecting holiday cards for children who have lost a loved one in mass shootings incidents. Cards can be either homemade or store bought and signed with a holiday greeting. Unfortunately, with increased firearm violence in our nation, the number of survivors either directly or surviving loved ones, has also increased.

I think this would be a wonderful project idea for Rotary clubs that allows us to convey the positivity, happiness, and service of Rotary to communities in need and to help this initiative. Let’s show the world that we are people of action! I’m particularly touched by this project because I can’t even imagine the pain of explaining to a child how their loved one perished in one of those incidents and the thought of them not seeing that figure for the holidays is heartbreaking! So a little extra joy would go a long way for them!

Thank you very much for your time, and I look forward to hearing back from you on this! Hope you’re having a nice weekend!

Best,
Jared Dmello

If any clubs are interested in participating, Contact Jared Dmello and he will put you into contact with the organizer. That way they can actually mail to her directly. Jackie created a Google Map that shows where she gets cards from – it would be a great way to get more pins on cities within our District and to show just how much love, joy, and service, we have for our community, State, nation, and world here in South Texas! Jackie can also customize the official flyer (see the one created for Laredo in the Read More) for other clubs if interested – for ours, she was able to update the contact info, drop-off coordination, and even the date to give me enough time to collect them from Laredo and mail to her in New York. She can be contacted via: Jaclyn.schildkraut@gmail.com, and folks can let her know Jared referred them to her (we’re good friends in addition to colleagues)!

I’d be happy to answer any questions that anyone may have!

Thanks so much for your support in this initiative!

Best,
Jared Dmello
