District 5930 held our second Cadre/Membership Matters workshop in Laredo, Texas on Saturday February 11, 2017.  Rotarian and Cadre presenter Susan Urban from Oklahoma City delivered an award winning training to a captive audience of Rotarians, new, and prospective members, representing eight Rotary clubs.  Our district now has two workshops under our belt and has reinforced again, how important they are for membership development.

We had a record of 40 Rotarians attending at the Embassy Suites in Laredo. We want to thank Assistant Governor Juan Lira and Immediate Past President, The Laredo Rotary Club, Juanita Lira, Membership Coordinator for Area 12, for their efforts in hosting this event.  They are true Rotary advocates in their city and the district.  Like our first workshop in Harlingen, Texas, they were able to attract a diverse group of Rotarians and Rotarians to be.  They invited 3 young professional prospective members that actively participated and shared some very emotional, passionate and motivating stories to the group.  What an effective orientation for them!
The energy in the room was a reflection of how efficacious the Cadre/Membership Matters program is.  This program compliments perfectly with our district’s Ignite Program that has proven to be extremely successful in implementing Rotary’s membership development best practices.

The next and final workshop will be in May in conjunction with our district conference in Rockport, Texas. This ingenious idea originated with our one and only District Governor’s Aide, Nancy Paulson, Rotary Club of Rockport, Texas.  And to top it off, and bring a world of experience, the Cadre presenter will be our Zone 21b Regional Rotary Membership Coordinator, Sherri Muniz.

The Laredo Rotary Club and our District Governor, Debbie High, took the opportunity to display best practices and resources for The Rotary Foundation, Public Image, and Membership development.  Our district is committed to the Foundation, Public Image and Membership trilogy squad concept.  I am confident this training will prove to be very beneficial in our Membership Development strategic plan.
