Last Saturday, the Rotary Club of Historic Brownsville proudly lived our mission of Service Above Self through our grant-funded project, “Warming Hearts with Shoes and Winter Coats,” held at JCPenney in Brownsville.
Thanks to a matching grant from The Rotary District 5930 and our club’s commitment, we served 85 Brownsville ISD students, including children living in areas affected by a fire accident in Brownsville. We spent a heartfelt morning as their personal shoppers, sharing meaningful moments with the children, their parents, teachers, and BISD staff.
This impact was made possible by the dedication of more than 20 Rotarians who volunteered, along with 40 Interact students who wrapped 120 goodie bags with care and love. The visit from Blue Santa, through our partnership with the Brownsville Police Department, made the day truly magical. Christmas carols sung by the Saint Joseph Academy Choir, alongside Ms. Martin, filled the space with warmth, joy, and holiday spirit.
We are deeply grateful for our partners and collaborators:
Diana Clough – BISD Homeless Youth Connection,
Mrs. Marr – Communities In Schools (CIS) Vela,
Brownsville Police Department, Communities In Schools of Cameron County, and JCPenney at Sunrise Mall Brownsville.
Together, through teamwork and compassion, we are warming hearts—one kid at a time.
