Dear District 5930 Rotarians,
I enjoyed great meetings at the Rotary clubs of Three Rivers, Freer, Victoria Downtown, Victoria, Victoria Northside & Goliad. While I bring the Rotary International and the District 5930 message to the clubs, at the same time I find myself listening and learning so much from these clubs. You start to understand the culture, community, and unique situation of each club. In addition, how they all love their communities, practice service above self, and are always looking for better ways to serve. We are indeed a different breed of people.
I will be heading to Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, Sinton as I write this on the week of February 19th. On February 20th Past District Governor Andy Hagan, District Governor Elect Dr. Zehra Surani, and I will be heading to induct, install & celebrate the charter members of the newly chartered Jim Wells County Rotary Club. And, on February 28, I will visit the Rotary Club of Brownsville-Downtown and head to Dallas to attend the PETS – President Elects Training Seminar. I am looking forward to meeting all of District 5930 President Elects and President Nominees.

March 2024 is Rotary’s Water, Sanitation & Hygiene month
At least 3,000 children die each day from diarrhea diseases caused by unsafe water, a grim reminder for Rotary members who make providing clean water and sanitation an organizational priority. During March we encourage members to work towards Rotary’s goal of providing everyone with safe water, sanitation, and hygiene by 2030.

March 31 Last day of Bird Early price for the Rotary District Conference “Celebrate with Passion-Showing Up for Each Other”. And pre-registration discount ends for the Rotary International Convention Singapore.

Clean water, sanitation, and good hygiene is a human right. When people, especially children, have access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, they lead healthier and more successful lives. We don’t just build wells and walk away. Rotary members integrate water, sanitation, and hygiene into education projects. When children learn about disease transmission and practice good hygiene, they miss less school. And they can take those lessons home to their families, expanding our impact.
Rotary has issued a global challenge to its members, asking them to work collectively to improve education quality and access — particularly for girls — by working with communities to improve teacher training, curriculum, and water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities.
On 8 March 2024, Rotary International is hosting a 60-minute panel discussion as a way to celebrate and recognize International Women’s Day, and we would love for you to join us!
The discussion will focus on the importance of not only including but also being a champion of women in leadership — in the workplace and beyond. We will discuss the importance of identifying leaders early, establishing mentorship and sponsorship programs, supporting women in joining women-led professional organizations, and focusing on allyship. They’ll also announce and celebrate the recipient of the 2023-24 Sylvia Whitlock Leadership Award.
On February 23, Rotary Day was memorable for our Rotary District 5930. Our Clubs worked in unity to confirm the commitment to service the community and the world. We celebrate the fellowship and together we can Create Hope for the World. #WeArePeopleOfAction
