Dear Rotary Members in District 5930,
Happy New Rotary Year! I am honored to be your District Governor.
My job as your District Governor, along with the District Leadership team, is to provide guidance and support to the clubs in District 5930. We are here to listen and motivate. Together we can create hope in the world!
Rotary International’s vision statement is very clear, “Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.” The beauty of the Rotary concept that has survived since 1905, is that Rotary promotes peace & better understanding in the world, and no matter what religion you follow, all religions promote the idea of loving thy neighbor. This is exactly what we practice in Rotary when we help our local and world communities. But to be able to do it efficiently, peace starts inside each of us, which spreads to our clubs and then you are able to go out and help others in a more efficacious way. In order to help others we follow the Rotary Motto of “Service above Self.” Please know that as you give of yourself to others, something special happens that benefits us when we volunteer. Here are some proven facts:
Volunteering provides many benefits to both mental and physical health.
Volunteering combats depression.
Volunteering increases self-confidence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction.
You see, we were not meant to be self-centered people. We were meant to be in communion with all people. Love is giving and receiving.
This leads directly to our themes for this Rotary Year 2023-2024. The Rotary International President Gordon R. McInally chose the theme “Create Hope in the World.” And I have decided that this year’s District theme is “Passion with Compassion.” If we unite this year’s international and district themes you create a vision to “Create Hope in The World” and do it by having “Passion with Compassion.” Many times, when we have a strong passion for something we tend not to hear the other side, which sometimes leads to the point of becoming contentious. The idea of the District theme is to combine strength in the ideas of Rotary and docility in interpersonal relations, hence, “Passion with Compassion.”
I look forward to all that our vibrant District 5930 will accomplish this Rotary Year! Please know that I am only a phone call or email away if you need anything. Let’s make it one of the best years ever!

Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger. We expand access to quality care, so mothers and children everywhere can have the same opportunities for a healthy future. An estimated 5.9 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, inadequate health care, and poor sanitation — all of which can be prevented. Rotary provides education, immunizations, birth kits, and mobile health clinics. Women are taught how to prevent mother-to-infant HIV transmission, how to breastfeed, and how to protect themselves and their children from disease.

Gordon joined Rotary in 1984 at age 26. A member of the Rotary Club of South Queensferry, he has served as president and vice president of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI). He has also served RI as a director and on several committees, including as an adviser to the 2022 Houston Convention Committee and chair of the Operations Review Committee.
Gordon says he looks forward to working with members to build new Rotary clubs and groups. “My vision is that Rotary should exist everywhere in a style to suit everyone who has the desire to be part of us and to help us do good in the world,” he says.
RI President-elect R. Gordon R. McInally calls for Rotary to create hope in the world by working for peace and mental wellbeing. He urges members to engage in tough conversations and earn the trust that’s necessary to realize these values.
The Rotary Citation awards recognize the hard work clubs do throughout the year. Working to achieve the citation goals helps clubs engage their members, stay relevant in their communities, and run more efficiently. A welcoming and engaging club also reflects the values of Rotary. When clubs achieve citation goals, they contribute to the overall health and culture of Rotary for generations to come.
Your Rotary, Rotaract, or Interact club can earn a Rotary Citation for achieving goals that strengthen Rotary and your club. Goals include increasing club membership, developing sustainable service projects, giving to the Rotary Foundation, and building awareness of Rotary in your community.
