April 2024
District Governor's Message

Dear District 5930 Rotarians,
By the time you read this I would have visited the last two clubs in our great district.  The Rockport Club on Thursday, March 21st at noon at the Hu Dat Restaurant, and the Corpus Christi Northwest Club on Wednesday, March 27th at noon at the Miller’s Bar-B-Q.
I want to thank all 51 clubs in our district for their heartfelt hospitality.  We had very productive club visits, we shared the great things all the clubs are doing in their communities, as well as areas of improvement.  We had discussions on membership growth, ideas for fundraisers, Rotary Foundation giving, and Public Image best practices, etc.

It was great seeing the president-elects and president nominees at Lone Star PETS in Dallas. District Governor Elect, Dr. Zehra Surani (Dr. Z), and her team did a wonderful job educating and motivating all of us.  The time is getting close for seamlessly passing the gavel from one Governor to the next. Each time improving and building on the previous administration.

Rotary District 5930 Conference
The theme this year for our district conference is “Celebrate with Passion, Showing Up for Each Other.” This is a time for all clubs to gather together and celebrate a great year.  Our District Conference Committee is working really hard to give us one of the best conferences.  Register right now!!!

The Four-Way Test
The test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages, asks the following questions of the things we think, say or do:
  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
During the spring semester many Rotary Clubs hold a Four-Way Test Speech Competition. It is a competition offered to high school students where the student must prepare a five to seven-minute speech to illustrate the Rotary Four-Way Test.

The student is judged on Content (50%), Organization (30%), and Delivery (20%). The student must follow the Four-Way Test Theme throughout, must relate the speech to his/her own activities, must present a human-interest appeal, and must choose language that is clear, vivid, and persuasive. The student must demonstrate organization of thought including an introduction, clear and orderly points, and a brief conclusion that drives home the point of application. And finally, the student must be effective in his or her speech delivery including volume, grammar, gestures, and attitude toward the audience.

Your clubs and areas should be holding your competitions this month and the District Contest will be in Harlingen, TX at the Harlingen Convention Center on Saturday, April 27.  Check the District Website to sign up for the luncheon following the contest where the winners will be announced.  Please come and support our young scholars.

April 2024 is Rotary’s Environmental month
During this month, Rotarians around the world come together to raise awareness about environmental issues, promote sustainable practices, and engage in projects that benefit our planet. It’s time to focus on conservation, climate action, and protecting our natural resources.  Let’s work together to make a positive impact on the environment.

Let’s continue to develop and create vibrant clubs to Create Hope in the World with Passion and Compassion.

Respectfully yours,

Luis Cavazos
Rotary District Governor
2023-2024

People of Action helps define Rotary for those who don’t know us. We’re professional, community, and civic leaders who connect with each other and who share a unique perspective and passion for taking action to improve the world. Describing and showing ourselves as people of action creates a personal connection to Rotary and emphasizes the impact we make in our communities.
