EARLY ACT IN LAREDO

Laredo Gateway Rotary chartered an Early Act club at United Day School September 7, 2005. Early Act was started by Rotary District 7510 in New Jersey. This might be the first in Texas. The event was an impressive ceremony, with City officials, private-school elementary school leadership, and Rotary working together to bring the values of Rotary to a new level, a level that will encourage good citizenship and New Generations for Rotary. In addition to inspiring elementary students to community service, District 5930 Governor Jorge Verduzco sees Early Act as an excellent feed for Interact. Laredo Gateway President Joe Maldanado did the honors of passing the charter to Early Act President Collin Wilkinson.

"The mission of Early Act is to promote goodwill, understanding and peace through the active participation of its student members so that, with committed citizenship and effective leadership, they may improve the quality of life of their school, local and global communities."

Early Act teaches ... Caring... Respect ... Empathy ...

Responsibility ... Compassion ... Friendship ... Leadership

Early Act is a school-wide service club for elementary students from ages 5 to 13. It is sponsored by one of the local Rotary clubs in the township in which the school is located. The mission and operation of Early Act are closely linked to the ideals of Rotary and provide a foundation and natural succession into Interact.

Early Act provides young students the opportunity for gaining an increased awareness and knowledge of their community and the world. At a young age, all students can easily be encouraged to be caring and helpful. Their minds are open to recognize the dignity and worth of each individual which builds respect for others.

Early Act also engages students in character-building activities and prepares them for leadership roles to identify and carry out projects which benefit their schools, local and global communities.
