This is a very difficult story for us to write.

Today we made the decision to cancel the upcoming conference, which was scheduled for May 1-3 at Omni Hotel & Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi.

As many of you know, the annual conference is the celebration of the year, and is something very special for both the Rotarians in the district and the Governor. The committee is investigating a date for a special celebration at the Texas State Aquarium to celebrate Rotary Year 2019-2020 and DG Ellison Crider. If you already made hotel reservations with the Omni Hotel, they have already notified you. We will be refunding the conference registrations within the next week.

We are also looking at alternatives for our Student Four-Way Test Speech Contest, Grant Training, and other activities. Allow us two-three weeks to develop options for you and your club. The good news is that we have a district full of resilient clubs and Rotarians who are well equipped to face a challenge with a can-do attitude. We can use this time to get inventive with how we engage members across the district (and who knows, we might even inspire a future Rotarian or two!).

We would also like to note that our representatives at Omni Hotel were sensitive to our situation and bent over backwards to make this process much easier than it could have been. We are thankful for their consideration in what is a very trying time for many businesses, especially those in the hospitality industry.

Our Four-Way Test asks us “is it fair to all concerned?” While many of us may feel healthy and want to interact socially, we must be mindful of our friends and family members whose health challenges may make them more vulnerable to COVID-19.

We thank you for your understanding. We will be back in touch with you shortly.

This is a fluid situation. Things can change literally minute to minute. We will do our best to keep you informed and up to date as this evolves.

In Rotary Service,
Ellison Crider
District Governor, 2019-20, Rotary District 5930
